Matauri Community Trust

The Matauri Community Trust was established in 2008 to advance environmental and community initiatives on behalf of Matauri X Incorporation, its shareholders and the Matauri Bay Community.

The trust is able to apply for grants as a non profit organisation. The Matauri X Incorporation does not qualify for these grants. During the resource consent process for the subdivision development, Matauri X Incorporation took the opportunity to create a management plan to recognise wider community needs. This plan identified what is now known as the Matauri Wetland & Duneland Restoration Project which is an environmentally sound community project, benefiting the public, the Matauri Community, and future generations.

The objects and purpose of the Trust are to promote, advance and support the economic, social and educational well being of people who are in need belonging to the Matauri Bay and surrounding districts (Community) by:

a. providing vocational training and employment opportunities;

b. promoting and becoming involved in Community initiatives and projects;

c. supporting other projects, programmes and/or initiatives which will benefit the Community;

d. securing funding for initiatives and projects which will benefit the Community;

e. arranging the construction and management to completion of initiatives and projects which will benefit the Community;

f. liaising with like organisations to bring skills and opportunities to the Community;

g. educating and informing the Community on the preservation and conservation of our environment and natural resources; and

h. benefiting any charitable body having objects and purposes similar to the Trust and of the benefit of the Community.

The trust plans to implement good practices and management is still work in progress. It is envisaged that the trust will be more active as funding applications from external funding agencies are secured.
